Peter Pakula would bet his lure would get the first marlin strike in a mixed spread of lures. He remained undefeated in around fifteen of these bets. In Kona fishing with lure maker Cpt. Jack Ross, in 189 he saw one of his lures, a version of the Locknut, running on the shotgun. Peter said, “Lucky we’re not taking bets,” as that Locknut looked incredible. Cpt. Jack gave him one of the Locknuts and gave permission to make them. Peter changed the shape and keeling to suit the rougher conditions encountered on the East Coast of Australia and many other fisheries.
The Changa is never mentioned in a recommended Pakula Pattern. It is designed to be run in a mixed spread of Sliced Heads or Bullets.
